One of the Coolest Things Ever.

Posted in Open Source, Zimbra Web Client by John Holder on the December 17th, 2007

It’s been tough keeping this one under wraps because it’s so cool. Yep: It’s in Zimbra 5.0.

With the addition of the Briefcase, and WebDAV, we thought it would be cool to have a Drag and Drop firefox extension. So here’s a preview.

The code has been there all along: it was inside Zimbra RC2 and in our Hosted Demo.

We might release a preview of the extension for all of you running Zimbra 5.0 RC2, so keep an eye on this post. If we do, I’ll post it here.

Enjoy!

According to pm.zimbra.com today is the release day for Zimbra 5.0. Is this not happening? :( Well, it’s done when it’s done I guess.

Very nice. Yet again. Isn’t releasing a preview to RC2 users about to be overcome by the GA release sched for today?

    Hi guys,
All I can really say is that our team is working hard to get 5.0 out, but we won’t release it if it’s not ready.

I don’t want it rushed… and when it is ready is fine. It’s just that the pm.zimbra.com site has been saying Dec. 17th 2007 for a long time now. The blog video says to check that site for the release date.

Care to set a new target date?

Hell YEAH !!! that’s amazing… great great great work guys !!!

Now, if only the concept of the briefcase could be extended to those attachements so you can edit the attached file (for some quick modifications for example), and then send it…

I could definitely KICK outlook OUT of here… :D
Thanks and really looking forward to the 5.0 release.

Great video guys and awesome extension. Mounting your inbox/briefcase as a drive sounds so cool :)

Will it allow multiple-file drag and drop? One of the complaints that I hear regularly is that it is tedious to attach multiple files compared to what Zimbra is meant to replace. So if there are 20 files to attach, it becomes rather cumbersome. With drag and drop, if you could select all 20 files and achieve things that way I know it would make a lot of our users happy.
